A Bright Star in the Dark

Jesus made friends and enemies. Both were imperfect in their relationship with God. Both groups lived in darkness.

Sin likes shadows. Sin does not want the light to shine on it and be exposed. Jesus was the light that came into the world. He shed light on the sin that held people hostage.

His friends wanted to be close so that His light would overshadow their darkness. Maybe, just like us, they thought that His light would be seen as theirs. He eventually did give them His light through the gift of His Holy Spirit, but before His sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection, Sin left its black mark on them.

Jesus' enemies distanced themselves from His light. They thought their own light would be sufficient. But their light was a dim candle compared to the blazing sun that The Son of God brings into the lives of those who believe in what Jesus has to offer.

God's light came to not hide sin, but to remove it.

Jesus, you lived a life in the Light and became the Light that we need to be free of sin. Forgive me when I hide from the light, because in hiding in shadows I cannot be free. I want to live in Your light. I want to give You my darkness so Your cross can take it from me. Let Your light shine on me and through me so that others might find the light that heals and brings freedom.
