Answers

We all seem to need answers at some point during our day. We may think we have all the answers we need, but those answers often fall short of what is best. So, let me introduce you to someone who has every answer to every question, and His answers never fail us.

Meet Jesus. In Isaiah 11:1-5 it was predicted that a Messiah would come and fill in our who, what, when, where, why, and how. Here is what these verses say:

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,

and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,

the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the Spirit of counsel and might,

the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.

He shall not judge by what his eyes see,

or decide disputes by what his ears hear,

4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,

and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;

and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,

and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,

and faithfulness the belt of his loins.

I love the second verse. If I need to know the right way to go, He has wisdom. If I tell Him I don't understand, He opens my eyes and ears to gain understanding. When I need to hear from someone who can take my situation and turn it to good, I go to Him for counsel. When I am weak, He is mighty and can hold me up and help me through. When I say, "I don't know" I can ask Him and He will point the way to the truth. Finally, when I fail to be humbled before God who is almighty and glorious, the only true king, He is there to be the example I need to follow.

Since this is an Old Testament verse, revealed by and Old Testament prophet, how can I know it is Jesus? I know because the Gospel writer, Matthew, told us that when Jesus was baptized, the Spirit of God rested on Him. (See Matthew 3:16-17). I also hear Jesus, in His own words tell us that He has the Spirit of God resting on Him. We find that passage in Luke 4:17-19. Here it is:

17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”

What I have found to be true, is that Jesus not only has the answers we seek, He is the answer! When we receive Him, we need not fear the unknown. We need only to take each step, knowing He will take us where we need to go and lead us on the right path.

I hope you know Jesus as The Answer.
