Doors are entry ways to new places. We walk through a doorway and our environment changes. Homes, doctor's offices, workplaces, churches, and stores all have their own atmospheres. The door may give us clues as to what lies behind and what we can expect.
Walking up to a door generates feelings. Some times we are filled with fear, anxiety, uncertainty. Other times we are full of excitement, anticipation and hope. Most prominent might be curiosity.
Some doors are meant to be opened by us. We open doors to friendships with words of kindness and smiles. We open doors to health and well being with daily choices that become habits. Other doors are opened by others. Sometimes from behind the door, welcoming us into a new adventure, or relationship. There are some doors that should never be opened such as addictions, or other harmful practices.
Every door opens to opportunity to respond. Behind every open gate, we can learn something about ourselves, others and even God. Our response is critical to living a life of purpose. Even locked doors can offer chances to respond with truth and choosing a greater purpose than what was hoped.
I am talking about doors because some of my grandchildren are facing a doorway that could require much wisdom in their response. Their doors could lead to a happy place but they need to be prepared for whatever waits behind this door that is not of their choosing. This is a time where I stand in faith believing God has their best interests in His plan. If they remain close to Him they will find purpose. It is knowing God that makes it possible to enter into the new with peace, hope and confidence.
We all have doors to open and walk through. What will my door be today? What will my response be?
