H.O.L.D. Humble Obedience Listens for Direction
Jesus said in John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow Me.”
One of the most important things a Christian needs to maintain a close walk with God is to listen and obey His voice. To learn how to do that takes practice, lots of practice. We practice humbling ourselves and practice hearing His voice above the crowds. I have practiced when confronting problems with my kids and grands, while writing my7 book and now in marketing, and in daily situations that come up.
Here is a hint about how to H.O.L.D. REMEMBER: No one likes to be put on hold especially if it is an important call. When learning to listen for God’s voice, we must put ourselves on hold because God is our most important caller. We must quiet our own voice (Humble ourselves) so we can hear Him and listen carefully for direction.
Here is a quick example: Recently I went to the Dollar store to get an item, but they did not have it in stock. My voice quickly said, “You will need to go to Walmart.” On the way to Walmart, I put my voice on H.O.L.D. when I heard a small whisper saying go to CVS. I don’t shop at CVS so I was not willing to go. I argued about the inconvenience but the voice insisted so I turned into the parking lot.
After searching for my needed item, I went to the counter to pay. As I was beginning to enter my debit card, I heard a woman weeping loudly behind me. I stopped, turned, and saw a young lady uncontrollably upset. I asked if she was alright. She said “No”. I said can I give you a hug? She nodded. She seemed to calm down so I proceeded with my purchase and left the store thinking that God had led me there simply to give her a hug.
As I walked out the door I clearly heard God telling me to wait for her and pray with her. She came out and sat on the curb crying again. I went to her and asked if I could pray. She nodded. After praying I asked what she planned to do. She was going to wait for a ride because she didn’t want to walk 30 minutes to get home. I immediately offered my services. While I drove, she told me her story and I tried to give her hope in Jesus. When she exited the car she had a tear-stained face, but a small smile too. I believe hope was received.
I have not seen her since, but I know that when I put my plan, my voice, my will on HOLD: Humbly Obeyed by Listening to Direction from The Holy Spirit’s voice, God’s will was done.
I am still practicing because I am not yet perfect.
