Seeing Eye to Eye

Today's Advent still has me contemplating Jesus as a baby. The wonder of God with us, and as a baby is sometimes so hard to comprehend. But when looked at through the eyes of love, well, we can see God, and ourselves in a new way.

What a wonderful thought that God wanted so much for us to see Him face to face, that He would leave behind His heavenly home to be close to us! I can imagine it in the same way that a parent will get down on the floor to look face to face with their baby as they learn to lift their head. The parent sees what the child's view of the world is like. The parent watches the child as they explore and delights in the relationship that has grown.

Jesus came to look us eye to eye, and tell us how much we are loved by the Father. Can we see His eyes sparkle at the good He sees in us? Can we see the tears He sheds when we turn away from Him, or choose our own way over His perfect way?

I am reminded of the prayer in the Psalms where the psalmist says, "Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings." Psalm 17:8 ESV I can see myself looking into His face and asking this of Him. Then He looks into my eyes and responds with the Proverb that says, "keep My commandments and live; keep My teaching as the apple of your eye." Proverbs 7:2 ESV (Capitals are my own).

Jesus, I know You see me, open my eyes so I may see You working in my life today!

The apple of my eye is the reflection of what I see.

The apple of God's eye is me!
